Trinity Landscape & Sports was lucky to be offered the opportunity to revitalise recreational spaces at the Old Guildford Public School.
Our mission was clear: to craft modern and functional recreational areas that enhance the school’s outdoor learning environment.
As part of Trinity Landscape & Sports’ collaboration with the Old Guildford Public School, we created three new essential recreational spaces designed to improve the appeal and functionality of the school’s outdoor areas.
Through meticulous planning and unwavering dedication, we embarked on a carefully executed, three-stage project consisting of:
To meet the brief, we first focused on creating a fully-landscaped playground space tailored explicitly for preschool students.
We intended to develop a safe, interactive, and engaging environment for young children to explore and learn through sensory play. For example, the mud kitchen allowed kids to experiment and get creative with mud, while the hand pump station gave them the chance to play with water.
The design also incorporated age-appropriate play spaces, beautiful landscaping features, and innovative safety measures to ensure a fun and secure space for all.
The project’s second stage involved replacing their old existing synthetic grass playing surface with brand new sports synthetic grass product. This new surface needed to be visually appealing, durable, and versatile, allowing for a better variety of physical activities – all of which we successfully fulfilled.
We worked closely with the school to ensure the new sports fields would cater to various activities like soccer, netball, and volleyball, resulting in a 1000m² multi-use area. The synthetic grass was also chosen for its low maintenance and cost-saving advantages, as well as its ability to withstand heavy use and various weather conditions.
The third and final stage of the project involved revitalising an existing outdoor area with random synthetic grass covering an area of 300m².
We aimed to refresh this specific part of the outdoor space and provide more opportunities for recreational use. By replacing the old synthetic grass that had reached the end of its lifetime with more durable, Australian-made synthetic turf, we hoped to encourage students and staff alike to enjoy a more aesthetically pleasing environment for rest, relaxation, and learning.
During the project, our team faced multiple challenges and obstacles. Coordinating work and development during the school holidays over the Christmas and New Year period took a lot of work, with many contractors on leave.
This made it difficult to complete the work within the tight deadline and mitigate any obstacles. Obtaining materials was another issue, as most suppliers were also on holiday for the seasonal period.
To illustrate the complexity, the playground alone required the involvement of multiple contractors for sequential tasks, including:
Only at this point did we discover the uneven and unworkable ground, which posed an unexpected challenge. Although it wasn’t part of the scope of work, resolving this was a necessary step to ensure that the field was completed to the absolute highest standard of quality and on time.
Wet weather also caused delays, and we needed to ensure the mitigation of its impact and the completion of the project in time for the students to return to school. As the challenges continued to mount up, we remained steadfast in completing the large-scale, multi-layered project in just two weeks over the major holiday period.
Despite these challenges, our team persevered, demonstrating our wide-ranging expertise and dedication to transforming the Old Guildford Public School into an unprecedented landscape.
We managed to revitalise the Old Guildford Public School by utilising our strong connections with our suppliers and network. Through this, we completed the project during the holidays and on time, ensuring minimal downtime for the school.
Our efficient work allowed students to enjoy the new spaces as soon as they returned to school. We are proud to have created an environment that supports their learning and well-being.
We understand the importance of minimising school disruptions, so we focused on completing the project during the school holidays. This allowed us to transform the space without causing any inconvenience to the students or staff.
The space now features an impressive, high-quality, visually appealing, and functional finish. Check out the accompanying video below for more details on the project’s final result.
We take pride in creating safe and inviting spaces for students to enjoy and our work at Old Guildford Public School is no exception.
